Prof. Elizabeth Esekong Andrew-Essien

Prof. Elizabeth Esekong Andrew-Essien holds a PhD, MSc and BSc in Geography and Environmental Sciences and Regional Planning from the University of Calabar, where she has 21 years of experience in teaching and research. She specialises in environmental safeguards, renewable and sustainable energy, forest resources management, pollution, and climate change and adaptation, with knowledge of conflicts in natural resource use, community adaptation patterns, indigenous knowledge systems and participatory research management.

She has coordinated teams on agriculture, forest and land use in the circular economy for the African Development Bank, RVO and GGKP, facilitated the development of Environmental and Social Management Frameworks for REDD+ programmes, built safeguard groups in the UN-REDD programme, managed World Bank Environmental and Social Impact Assessments for infrastructure projects, and taken part in training on municipal wastewater management in coastal cities with UNESCO-IHE and UNEP/GPA.

She holds certificates in Community-Led Solutions for Climate Change from St. Francis Xavier University, Canada, and in Global Perspectives on Climate and Health from Villanova University.
