Prof. Francis Ebuta Bisong

Prof. Francis Ebuta Bisong is a Professor of Conservation Biogeography at the University of Calabar, Nigeria, and an expert in climate change and sustainability with over 37 years of experience in academia, research and administration. He works on the implications of climate change across agriculture, forestry, water and sanitation, energy and waste, focusing on the integration of green growth principles for sustainable land use and climate-smart development.

He founded the African Green Growth and Development Forum, a think tank dedicated to fostering green and circular economy policies across Africa. His research covers land use and land cover change and the sustainability transitions needed for green growth in natural resource sectors. He has collaborated with the World Bank, UN Environment and the African Union on policy and legislative development, and has served as an independent expert and consultant for UNEP and the African Development Bank on circular economy and climate change.

He holds a PhD in Geography from the University of Port Harcourt, an MSc in Biodiversity Conservation from Imperial College, University of London, and a BSc (Hons) in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Calabar. He has over 80 publications in refereed journals.
