Prof. Joy Atu is a climate change and sustainability expert with over 20 years driving environmental initiatives in academia and research. She was recognised as a UN Environment World Environment Day Hero for spearheading green projects on campus, and has a strong track record in climate advocacy through seminars, discussions and awareness campaigns.

She specialises in environmental analysis and biodiversity conservation, with over 35 published papers. She secured a $100K USADF/USAID grant for a sustainable community biogas programme, pioneered her geography department's postgraduate research wing as chairman, and heads the university's annual Environment Day and research events. She holds certifications in climate science, negotiations, geospatial intelligence and GIS, and is a member of the AAG, ANG, SCB and NES.
