The group works on climate action and the energy transition across Africa's cities, land and waters, and on the partnerships that make them possible. Its strategies, set out in AGDF's founding document, centre on building consensus among members, commissioning studies and programmes, and disseminating green growth knowledge.

Strategies

1. Networking with members through meetings and special fora to arrive at consensus on the green development subject in Africa.
2. Set up seminars, workshops and commissioned studies based on delineated agenda with clear strategies in achieving green development in Africa.
3. Networking with research and academic institutions as well as governments and non-state actors for appropriate green development strategies in Africa.
4. Commission green growth programs and initiatives that affect livelihood in the African continent.
5. Disseminate green growth information to academic institutions, libraries, governments, NGOs and media for wide circulation.

The group is aligned to the goals on poverty, hunger, health and well-being, and peace and strong institutions. In AGDF's approach, environmental problems are addressed through short- and long-term improvement of the livelihood options of local communities; this group carries that concern for livelihoods, food security and health in communities exposed to climate change.

The group is aligned to the goals on clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, and climate action. It brings together AGDF's work on water, energy access, waste and the circular economy.

The group is aligned to the goals on gender equality, reduced inequalities, and peace, justice and strong institutions. Its concerns run through AGDF's safeguards and capacity-building work: mainstreaming gender in climate change adaptation, analysing conflicts in natural resource use, and protecting people affected by forest and infrastructure programmes.

It carries AGDF's objective of providing technical expertise to build the capacity of policymakers and critical stakeholders, and its record of training and teaching materials.

Partnership & Sustainable Finance

The group is aligned to the goal on partnerships. It carries AGDF's objective of leveraging existing opportunities for green financing, technologies and know-how to support the transition of communities and private-sector players to green growth and investment, and AGDF's open invitation to affiliate and partner with stakeholders in the public and private sectors, communities, policy makers, CSOs and NGOs.
